A Word About Portraits

Whether taking portraits, modeling portfolios, engagement photographs, family groups, proms & dances, dance studios, Sweet 16, quinceaƱos, a maternity portrait series, or yearbook photos; the main task is not about getting the right exposure or getting the image sharply focused. Any modern automatic camera can accomplish those tasks.

The real task involves interacting with people in a manner that makes them feel comfortable and at ease. If a person is not at ease in front of the camera, it will show in their expression.

Over the years, I have developed my skills at interaction to the point that I hear people say that they were never able to relax in front of the camera the way they could with me taking the photographs.

Part of this process is simply a matter of actually listening to people and finding out what is going to feel natural for them and not forcing them into a particular pose just because someone else used the pose and it worked for them

The second task is to find a lighting style that complements the subject.
